In October 1953, Beijing Petroleum Institute was established. The college established the Department of Petroleum Machinery, and the Department of Petroleum Machinery established the Petroleum Refinery Machinery Teaching and Research Section (Refining Machinery Teaching and Research Section). In 1969, the Petroleum Refinery Machinery Teaching and Research Section was renamed the Chemical Machinery Teaching and Research Section (Chemical Machinery Teaching and Research Section); in 1970, the teaching and research section was renamed the Chemical Machinery Company; in 1978, the name of the Chemical Machinery Teaching and Research Section was restored. In September 1999, the Department of Petroleum Machinery was renamed the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and the Department of Chemical Machinery was renamed the Department of Chemical Equipment and Machinery. In September 2001, the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering was renamed the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and the Chemical Equipment and Machinery Teaching and Research Section was renamed the Department of Chemical Equipment and Control Engineering. In April 2011, the Department of Chemical Equipment and Control Engineering was transferred from the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering to the School of Chemical Engineering. In July 2019, the Department of Chemical Equipment and Control Engineering was transferred from the School of Chemical Engineering to the School of New Energy of Shida Yankuang.
The Department of Chemical Equipment and Control Engineering currently has 32 full-time teachers, including 5 professors, 17 associate professors, 1 senior engineer, 7 lecturers, and 3 post-doctoral teachers. There are 1 Taishan Scholars Distinguished Expert, 1 Provincial Teaching Teacher, 1 Member of the Teaching Guidance Sub-Committee of the Ministry of Education, and 7 Doctoral Supervisors. Hiring 2 part-time professors/Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 overseas Changjiang Scholars chair professor and 1 visiting professor.
